Well, perhaps not. Think about the different kinds of strength we can have, all the different reasons why we would need strength:
- strength to endure - like when something hard happens, a death, a divorce, a tragedy
- strength to do - just the ability to do what has to be done, even when you are weary
- strength of will - the strength to stand for what you believe, even in the face of ridicule and opposition
- strength to trust - when what your life looks like is changing and you’re leaving your comfort zone.
The crazy thing is: we spend way too much time relying on our own strength. Or we look to something else to save us - like our job, our mate, or even our church family. The reality is that we have to learn to rely on God. He is our strength when we are weak! He is our shield and buckler. He is the One who encourages us to endure when we are weary.
I don’t know what you need strength for today, but I know you can’t reach down deep inside and find the strength you need for the long term. I know you can’t pull yourself up by your bootstraps. You have to go to the One who said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” Find your strength in Him!
