Exodus
The book of Exodus is the second book of the Old Testament and literally means "a going out" or "way out." This book tells about God's rescue of the Israelites from captivity in Egypt to the Promised Land. It narrates their 40 years of wandering in the wilderness after disobeying God. It contains the Ten Commandments (Ex 20), Israel's sin and Moses' intercession for them (chapters 32-33), and the building of the Tabernacle (chapters 35-40).
It is a book rich with symbolism for the Christian who is coming out of bondage/slavery to sin and wants to obey God. God's long-suffering and mercy on the people who continue to fall short in their walk with God illuminates two things: our desperate need for a Savior and the creation of a new creature in Christ and the patience God has with us as He purifies for Himself a people.
