Psalm 29
1. I like the benediction (29:11). Notice that it's not an absolute, but a request.
2. Notice God's voice. What does it do? Find the verbs: thunders, breaks cedars, flashes flames, shakes wilderness, strips forest.
3. Why does the psalmist use "voice" to depict God's action? Think about how God created the world: God spoke and there was light; God spoke and it was done.
4. Add 29:10 to "throne".
5. Read the ESV text notes, if possible.
Psalm 30
1. Where have we seen Sheol before? (16:10)
2. Contrast vs. 6 and vs. 7.
3. There are many contrasts in this psalm:
anger - favor
weeping (night) - joy (morning)
trust in wealth - trust in God
mourning - dancing
sackcloth - gladness
Psalm 31
1. Add trust in the Lord (vs. 6 and 14) to "coin" page in journal.
2. Verse 10 tells us David is guilty. What word indicates this? (iniquity, reproach)
3. It is interesting how many times the psalm starts with a request for God to hear or help and finishes as if God has already acted. Can you explain this? (Possibility: These were songs to be sung in the congregation. They are praises - songs to worship God for what He has done.)
4. Add "hand" to journal page (31:15).
Psalm 32
1. Read NIrv devotion.
2. Describe doing something wrong. (32:3-4) What are the results? It impairs a relationship. It builds a wall. How do you repair the relationship? Acknowledge and confess sin. Ask for forgiveness. God forgives. And yet, there seems to be a window (32:6), so keep short accounts.
